A cold blanket of
snow covered a Detroit cemetery ground, the morning light grayed by the
overcast sky. The leafless trees surrounded the area like a thousand bony
fingers, caging in a horrific scene.
A
tall, brown-haired android knelt by the body of a young woman with porcelain
skin. The blue glow coming from his arm cuff stood out even brighter against
the monotone colors of the day.
The
android looked closely at the woman’s hollow, empty eyes and scanned her face.

“Oh
for fuck’s sake, Connor.” A gruff voice broke the silence.
The
android got to his feet and turned to face the gray-haired man. “Sorry
lieutenant. But this is the most efficient way to analyze data for the
investigation.”
Lieutenant Hank Anderson shook his head and wandered off a short ways. “Jesus, I’ll never get used to this shit.”

Connor’s
vision went monochrome as he quick-scanned the cemetery grounds, finding three
more bodies in view. All females with fair skin and auburn hair between the
ages of 25-29.
“Hey
Connor!” The lieutenant called from down the hill. “There’s two more over
here!”
“I
have three others up here.” Connor examined the identical wounds on all the frozen
bodies scattered around the gravestones. Some were mostly hidden in snow.
Hank
and Connor met up in the middle of the chilling scene.
“Six
victims in total. The oldest dates back only three weeks ago.” The android
reported.
Lieutenant
Anderson sighed. “Well, that covers all the missing reports we’ve been getting.
Cause of death?”
Connor
stood up straight, placing one hand inside the other behind his back.
“Asphyxiation. The victims were strangled. The lacerations on the abdomen were
inflicted postmortem.”
“Mmm.” The
lieutenant crossed his arms in front of his chest and furrowed his brow. “You
think he killed ‘em here?”
“No.
The recent body showed signs of being moved after she was murdered. There are
also blood trails under the layers of snow.”
Hank
stared at the ground. “Any tire tracks?”
“It’s
likely. But unfortunately there’s been too much snowfall to identify them.”
The lieutenant
paced. “So the killer murdered the girls somewhere else, then dragged them out
here, hoping the snow would cover his tracks.”
Hank
stopped in his footsteps and looked around at the girls, mutilated and frozen.
“What a sick bastard.” Letting out a heavy sigh he squinted at Connor. “Is it
possible to track those blood trails?”
The
android nodded. “Not sure how far they’ll take us, though.” He scanned the
ground near the most recently deceased body. “The blood droplets are few and
far between. The girls were likely dead for a few hours before they were
dragged out here.”
“I’ll
call the station, see if we can get a hand with the bodies.” Hank flipped out
his phone.
“I’ll see how far these trails go.” Connor’s gaze followed the droplets from the most recent victim up the hill. As he passed Melanie’s body, he paused. He studied her face, her expression fixed in horror. Then his gaze lowered, lingering on the gashes in her stomach, long, red, and gaping.

The

Then
he looked up and forward, focusing on the fading path of blood buried under
layers of snow.
